Iron City Delivery brings Birmingham's Local Flavor into Your Home
We sat down with Grant Sides of Iron City Delivery to see how he and his family are making home delivery of your favorite local restaurants possible!
Happenin's in the 'Ham: Tell us a little about how you got involved in the food delivery business.
Grant Sides: We used this sort of service in Florida and thought it would be a great service in Birmingham. So we contacted the delivery company and purchased a “Doorstep Delivery” franchise for the Birmingham market. We also thought it would be a great opportunity for our family to work together.
HITH: What made you decide to "go local" as opposed to sticking with a larger company?
Sides:Doorstep Delivery decided to sell all of its locations to a larger corporation. We turned down the offer for our franchise in Birmingham and decided to change the name to better represent our city. Same local owners, new local name.
HITH: How many restaurants are you currently partnering with and will people be surprised at some of the options?
Sides: We currently partner with over 100 restaurants and we basically have every cuisine available. From cup cakes and hot dogs to high end Italian and the best bar-b-que in the city.
HITH: How has it been working with local restaurant owners? Did the warm up to the concept quickly?
Sides: At first, it was a little more difficult to get some restaurants on our service but we had a few trusting souls that gave us a chance. We opened the doors for delivery on October 21, 2014 with 15 restaurants and now we have over 100 and the list keeps growing.
HITH: What are some examples of situations that Iron City Delivery can be used?
Sides: Our customers order for their office, home, hotel rooms. Our customers also order for their friends for birthdays, anniversaries, and all types of celebrations. We also have business accounts that order for their employees. We can also provide catering services from just about each one of our restaurants.
HITH: Do you have a fun story of how you "saved the day" with a delivery?
Sides: Well we don’t save lives, we just deliver great food from great restaurants, but we have plenty of occasions that our customers had us deliver food to a family in need or a friend in the hospital. Those opportunities are always special.
HITH: What's your delivery area?
Sides: All of metro Birmingham and we hope to expand to Pelham and Trussville in the near future.
HITH: How has Birmingham responded so far?
Sides: Birmingham is incredible! The business has really taken off and that presents its own set of challenges but we have improved our software as well as increased the number of restaurants to over 100 to fulfill our customers desires.
HITH: How can people find out more information and share it with friends?
Sides: They can go to our website at www.IronCityDelivery.com to get all the details and share on Social Media with #ironcitydelivery .
You can find Iron City Delivery on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter! Be sure to check for their signs at your favorite Birmingham Restaurants!
