Annual Helen Keller Art Show, Vann Gallery. Art show featuring visually and hearing impaired children in the state of Alabama.The award-winning artwork will be displayed in the historic Helen Keller birthplace in Tuscumbia, AL, as well as in our state museums and agency galleries throughout the year. BCRI will be open from 9 -am-5 pm on Tuesdays-Fridays through February 28. Saturday and Sunday are normal hours.

Birmingham Revealed at Vulcan Park and MuseumBirmingham Revealed

Written by playwright Lee Shackleford, Washington & Du Bois: Two Opinions, One Goal compares the different philosophies of two early civil rights activists, Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois, while showing how they came to respect one another. Comparing their philosophies of post-Civil War integration, this dramatic performance will capture the audience’s attention and highlight the complexity of changing a culture of racial discrimination, an issue that is still crucial today. This premiere performance, endorsed by the Alabama 200, will kick off Vulcan Park & Museum’s Black History Month program which will provide this educational drama, free of charge, to Birmingham’s underserved middle and high school students.

The twelfth Gosse Nature Walk takes you to Birmingham’s Flora Johnston Nature Park, for a moderate hike on one of Birmingham’s lesser known nature trails. The details: Meet-up is at noon in the a small parking lot, located at approximately 244 Elder Street, just north of a bridge crossing Shades Creek. As always, remember to bring plenty of water and snacks, insect repellent, rain gear, sunblock, and seasonally appropriate attire. Because this is a moderate hike, you’ll definitely want to have some walking shoes before heading out.

"Microlove" an annual show featuring miniature art, handcrafted jewelry, and handmade gifts for your valentine: a lot of these creations are made with recycled materials. Chocolate treats will be served. 100% of bar tips will benefit GraceWorks, a nonprofit in Woodlawn that has a summer program for teens from the Gate City projects. You may want to wear water-friendly shoes in case you cross the creek. In case of bad weather, there will be an update for you on Facebook by noon.
