For those of us who aren’t heading off to the beach, here are some great events to attend right here in the Birmingham area! We want to also remember the brave men and women of our military. Endangered Animal Art Show Birmingham ZooEndangered Animals Art Show

Artist Russ Ronat is showing his latest artwork, Project Holocene, in the Birmingham Zoo’s Predator Building. This is a series of mixed media drawings of endangered and vulnerable animals. These large drawings bring attention to the rising issues of deforestation, illegal wildlife trade and the other threats that these species face. Visit the Zoo’s Predator Building during the month of May to learn about these endangered/vulnerable animals. Join Community Grief Support for "Art On The Roof," at Elyton Hotel's rooftop bar, Moonshine! All proceeds from art sales go to CGS to fund free grief counseling, grief support groups, and grief education in Birmingham and surrounding areas. Fresh Dirt, one of the deep South’s newest artistic collectives researching practicing Surrealism in the 21st Century, will host an exhibition & creative soire’ on Thursday, May 24! This one, you don't want to miss. Along with the visual exhibition of artworks, there will be Surrealist inspired performances by the South’s most potent improvisers in multi-disciplinary exploration involving dance, music, Butoh, poetry, and community collective art projects in writing and drawing and mixed-media. Dancers , Poets and Musicians will perform, and collective creativity will commence throughout the evening. Food will be available for purchase.

The Alabama Folklife Association is pleased to offer their 4th Cherokee Leaf Pounding workshop at Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve. Mrs. Rosa Hall, a naturalist, educator, and Native American living historian will serve as the instructor. She will be assisted by textile artist and living historian Monica Newman Moore. They will be pounding away on The Back Porch, shaded by the pavilion while enjoying the surrounding woods and gardens.
