The city will host the Marvelous Harvest Festival on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at City Hall. This free event is for children 12 years old and younger. Costumes are encouraged. No scary costumes, please. There will be kid-friendly games, rides, performances and lots of candy.

Ground Floor Contemporary is pleased to present ECHO. Artists Elaine Farley Kinnaird, Miriam Norris Omura, and Susan Vitali will be exhibiting artworks that explore metaphors and ideas connected to echoes. The visual idea of echoes: being a reverberation of something, (rather than a sound), opens up visual concepts around repetition, the act of mimicking, responses, reflections, and shadows.

GlobalXplorer’s Space Archeologist Dr. Sarah Parcak uses satellite imagery to identify hidden archaeological sites, including ancient pyramids, forgotten settlements, and lost tombs. Join BMA for a free lecture by Dr. Parcak, associate professor of anthropology and founding director of the Laboratory for Global Observation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Parcak's work has garnered international attention and earned her the 2016 TED Prize, a $1 million prize granted annually to an exceptional individual with a “wish to change the world.” With that prize, she founded GlobalXplorer, a nonprofit based here in Birmingham at the Innovation Depot. GlobalXplorer’s first project in Peru mapped over 700 previously unknown sites, uncovered 19,000 features, and has created a citizen archaeology movement of nearly 80,000 users throughout the world!

Back Forty Beer Company joined Birmingham's thriving craft beer scene with the opening of a new microbrewery at Sloss Docks this summer, bringing favorites like Truck Stop Honey Brown Ale and Naked Pig Pale Ale directly to the Ham. Doug Brown chose the location due to the dramatic views of Sloss Furnaces and the nearby active railway. Tickets are free. Delicious beer and food will available for purchase!
