This weekend brings us a TON of fantastic events. There’s the East Lake Fishing Rodeo, Smore’s & Pours, Zoo Brews, Fest Italiana, the USFL Conf. Championship, and more! If you weren’t aware, Sidewalk Film Festival & Cinema, a 501c3, had a $25k pre-approved federal grant clawed back because of their dedication to inclusivity in their programing. The best thing you can do to help is to check out what’s going on at Sidewalk Cinema this weekend and buy tickets to their events and concessions once you arrive! They host all kinds of events like karaoke, FREE Bad Movie Nights, Knitflix & Chill, Pajama Brunches, and fantastic films! Most of these events are either FREE or under $11 to attend. S’mores & Pours

Kick off the summer in style as Bridgeways transforms Avondale into a Boho Glamping style oasis! Enjoy yummy food from Taco Mama and a selection of Avondale's finest brews. Stick around for amazing raffles/drawings, explore pop-up shops & vendors, and check-out local artists showcasing their talents. There’s something for everyone, including activities for the kiddos & treats for your furry friends, all set to the lively tunes of T.U.B – The UnKnamed Band, complemented by lights and sound by McDowell. Oh, and did we mention s’mores? Not only does your ticket include two beers, soft drinks, and all of that delicious Taco Mama, it also includes all kinds of yummy s’mores ingredients, so get creative!

Knitflix & Chill: Black Panther

Join Sidewalk for a special screening of Ryan Coogler's Black Panther. Lights will be a little brighter than usual in the theater so you can bring your knitting, crochet or any other craft project! If you're looking for something new to make, the crew from KnitBham will be selling kits for your own project. This month's Knitflix features the fantastic Marvel film, Black Panther!

Come enjoy Green Drinks happy hour with the Alabama Environmental Council and Jefferson County Greenways at Golden Age Wine Garden this Thursday. The talk will begin promptly at 6 p.m. with guest speaker, Janet Simpson-Templin, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Director. The Zoo is always fun, but it’s even more exciting to explore it after hours while sipping on local brews! Experience 28 breweries from all over Alabama and the southeast while you travel through the Zoo! Perfect for adults 21 and up, this event is a signature favorite! Attendees will also delight in tasty selections from local food truck vendors. (The event is “Rain or Shine” and they do have a plan in case it is raining.) Come enjoy this wild fundraiser. You’ll even get a fun beer stein!

Party on the Porch brings together local musicians, breweries, food trucks, and local businesses for an evening you do not want to miss! This is a family-friendly event, with activities for kids, a dog-friendly atmosphere, live music, good food, cornhole, giveaways, and loads of fun! Attendance is free, but they ask that of-age (21+) attendees donate (not required) $10 for a wristband and a souvenir cup with your donation going to a local non-profit organization at the event. This month’s event will support our beautiful Alabama State Parks!

Rocky Horror Picture Show

The Rocky Horror Hot Dogs is a live shadowcast experience of the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This comedy-based troupe will chill you, thrill you, and fulfill you as they act out your favorite scenes on stage and celebrate a night of debauchery. Outside prop bags are not allowed. Prop Bags will be available at the cinema (while supplies last and include theatre approved props) for purchase with proceeds going to The Rocky Horror Hot Dogs shadowcasters. This weekend features midnight showings on both Friday and Saturday! Get ready for a fun time!

Community Fishing Rodeo

This event is always so much fun for the whole family! The 45 acre lake will be stocked FULL of fish for you to catch! Arrive early to get free bait while supplies last. (The early bird gets the worm…for their hook.) There will also be giveaways, food trucks, vendors, and more! The best part of this event is seeing so many families teaching their young kids the joys of fishing.

Alabaster CityFest

The Alabaster Arts Council, Inc., is excited to organize Alabaster CityFest, scheduled for the first Saturday in June. Alabaster CityFest has become one of the state’s premier family festivals. Each year, this event attracts tens of thousands of visitors—not only from the local community, but from all across the Southeast. The event grows larger every year. Enjoy the KidsFest area featuring hands-on arts and crafts, inflatables, music, and various children’s activities. CityFest also includes a large vendor area with great food and merchandise, a classic car show, and world-class musical entertainment all day long. Gates open at 9AM and close after the last act. Best of all, admission to this event is absolutely FREE!

Festa Italiana

The 2nd Annual Festa Italiana will welcome thousands from in and around our community and beyond to Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark in the heart of Birmingham. In keeping with the mission of the Italian American Heritage Society, a 501 (C) (3) not-for-profit organization, this one day event will encourage, promote and preserve Italian culture and heritage with activities centered upon Italian traditions, foods, language, culture, history, religion, folklore, customs, celebrations, music and family! Enjoy a taste of Italy - right here in Birmingham! Featuring live musical performances on the main stage, Festa Italiana will showcase some of the most talented acts around - many of Italian descent or influence. And what would an Italian Festival be without the food! Aside from actually being in Italy, Festa Italiana will be the next best thing. Imagine Sloss Furnaces filled with authentic Italian vendors serving a variety of Italian favorites, from cannolis to Italian sausage to gelato. Cooking demonstrations, dancing, grape stomping competitions, a bocce ball tournament, a Sugo (Italian red sauce) Cook-Off, Italian cars, merchandise vendors, a Children's Village, Cultural Village, fireworks and more.
