As students at the United States Navy's elite fighter weapons school compete to be the best in the class, one daring young pilot learns a few things from a civilian instructor that are not taught in the classroom. Come "kick some tires and light some fires" at the 2019 Alabama Theatre Summer Film Series. Tickets for all movies are $9 each. Children ages two and younger are free of charge. Doors open 1 hour before showtime, and each screening will begin with a sing-along accompanied by the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ.

In this book of poetry, the Birmingham native shares her real-life story about how poetry helped her overcome the aftermath of abuse on her transformative journey to self worth detailing the healing, humor, and hope encountered along the way. To share her love of poetry with her community, Lisa Ann will also be leading an interactive black out poetry session.

The legacy of African American businessman A. G. Gaston still inspires today’s emerging entrepreneurs and business leaders. Although his role in the struggle for civil rights in Birmingham may not be widely known, it was indeed pivotal in the 20th century and helped to change the course of history in Alabama and the nation. Head to the BCRI Sunday for the opening reception of their newest exhibition, A.G. Gaston: The Man and His Legacy. The event will also include a book signing of Black Titan: A.G. Gaston and the Making of a Black American Millionaire by author Carol Jenkins.

Fame! is a storytelling show hosted by comedians Chris Ivey and Peter Davenport.
On the last Sunday of each month, Chris and Peter recruit some of their funniest friends to tell stories about the time they met a celebrity. After the story, we open up it up to you, the crowd, for questions about the encounter. In the past, they have had stories about Oprah, Kanye West, Jennifer Lawrence, Dave Chappelle, Bonnie Rait, Ja Rule, Dr. Phill and many many more. You never know who will pop up!
