Spring is finally here and what better way start the season off right than with some fun Birmingham events?! From a cemetery movie night to a local theatre, there are a lot of unique events to check out! Get the details below!

Drop in Tour at BMADrop-in Tour: Japanese Art

These events are so much fun! Whether it’s the sharp blade of a samurai sword or the elegance of a 5,000 year old Jomon vessel, the BMA’s Japanese collection is sure to pique your interest! Please drop-in and join Docent Nick Bouler for a FREE tour of the Japanese gallery at 11:00 am. It’s a great way to spend your lunch!

The Loved OneFilm Night: The Loved One

Join Oak Hill for an encore showing of Tony Richardson’s 1965 comedy classic, The Loved One. This film stars Robert Morse, Anjanette Comer, Rose Steiger, Jonathan Winters, and a host of others. Bring your chairs, blankets and picnics and join us. (This event is not recommended for young children.) The gates open at 6, and the film will begin at 7:15.Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Marvel vs DCTrivia Night: Marvel & DC

Round up a team or go it alone to test your wits and compete for great prizes! This week the library will quiz you on both the Marvel and DC universes! So, find a fan of Batman & Superman as well as fans of the X-men and Avengers! How well do you know your heros?!

Four stories of love, sex, and everything in-between. Theatre Downtown brings back its annual Short Play festival (cultivating new talent for the stage) with these forgotten gems from the 1960s. We attended last week and laughed a LOT! Support your local theatre and have a great time! Thursday is “Hobo Night” where you just pay what you can afford! Note: The matinee on Sunday is at 2pm.

Sparks After DarkSparks in the Dark

Head on out to Tannehill this weekend for Sparks in the Dark! They will have scratch blocks for $20 & scratch bowls for $40 so you scratch out your own design on the bowl or block then you can watch as they pour them that Saturday evening! It's always a entertaining show of sparks. It's also the opening for a new season for all of the residential artists that demonstrate at the craft cabins on the opposite end of Farley field. If you have never experienced a iron pour, we highly suggest bringing family & friends to experience something interesting that has a lot to do with the history behind Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park!

Christopher Confessore conducts Aaron Copland’s famous Appalachian Spring, a piece that “perfectly captures the vast open spaces, the homespun plainness, and the bracing pioneer spirit of our country.” We know you are familiar with this folksy tune! The full show includes William Grant Still: Darker America, Aaron Copland: Appalachian Spring Suite, and Antonin Dvo?ák: Symphony No. 6! Gain insight into the works you're about to hear by getting there at 6:15pm for Concert Comments in the Reynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall!

Storytime inspires creativity and exploration! Come join in at the Nature Center for a story and craft with longtime Ruffner volunteer, Ms. Jerri. The Alabama Head Injury Foundation's Birmingham Regional Board will host its 5th Annual Beer, Band & BBQ event on Saturday, March 23rd from 12:00-5:00 p.m. at Avondale Brewery. Your ticket includes a plate of delicious Saw's BBQ and live music. The WD Band will be the featured performer. Please join in for some craft brews, awesome food, and rockin’ music all for a great cause!

It’s back! The first dance walk of 2019 will be on Sunday at Railroad Park! They'll meet on the grass across from the Boxcar Cafe (which is located under the 17th Street Plaza covered area). Look for the balloons! What is Dance Walking? It's a fun fitness craze sweeping the globe. They are dancing and walking through Birmingham on a quest for fun, people, music, and FITNESS! Everyone is welcome and all ages are encouraged to join!
