6 Reasons Not to Miss the St. Symeon Food & Culture Fair this Weekend!
Looking for a fun and flavorful way to spend your Saturday? The Sixth Annual St. Symeon Food & Culture Fair is happening this Saturday, October 12, from 9am-3pm, and here are six reasons why you don’t want to miss it!
1. A Feast of Flavors!
Get ready to indulge in a global culinary experience! The outdoor marketplace will feature five food booths: the Middle Eastern Market, Balkan Bakery, Babushka’s Kitchen (your go-to for Slavic treats), Southern Sweets & Savories, and Café Europa. From savory pierogi served hot with onions and sour cream to authentic sausage rolls, there’s something for every taste. Don’t forget the Opa! Kabana tent for freshly made loukoumades, or Hot Greek Donuts, topped with cinnamon or chocolate!
2. Explore the Church’s Stunning Iconography.
The worship space at St. Symeon Orthodox Church has been fully transformed with breathtaking floor-to-ceiling iconographic murals. Throughout the day, you're invited to tour the church and admire these incredible works of sacred art. It’s a perfect chance to experience the spiritual beauty that complements the festivities outside.
3. Don’t Miss the Choir Concert.
At 11am, enjoy a special performance by the St. Symeon choir with their concert titled This is the Day That the Lord Has Made. The concert will feature hymns from the Resurrectional weekend services, filling the church with beautiful, uplifting music. This is a highlight you won’t want to miss!
4. Learn About Sacred Art and Church History.
Ever wondered about the meaning behind the church’s stunning murals? At 1pm, Fr. Deacon Ephraim Rivers will give an informative talk, What is Iconography?, offering insights into the role of sacred art in the Orthodox tradition. Earlier in the day at 10:30am, Father Alexander Fecanin will present on the life and teachings of St. Symeon the New Theologian. Both talks offer a deeper look into the spiritual roots of the festival.
5. Shop for Unique Baked Goods and Gifts.
Along with the incredible food, the marketplace will also be a hub for homemade baked goods and unique gifts. Whether you're picking up freshly made pierogi by the dozen, sweets from Babushka’s Kitchen, or a gift from one of the artisan vendors, you'll find plenty of treasures to take home.
6. It’s FREE to Attend!
That’s right! This event is free! Once you arrive, you can purchase all the gifts and food you’d like, but the talks and performances are free of charge and open to everyone!
