2026 Sidewalk Bad Movie Marathon
Friday 6pm - Sometime Sunday
Cost: $15 (per 2hr block)
At: Sidewalk Cinema (map)
It’s BACK! Sidewalk Bad Movie Marathon is an insane fundraiser for Sidewalk Film Festival and Cinema. "Runners” will watch “bad movies” (think Gigli, Cats, or Battlefield Earth) while raising money for Sidewalk which they can “cash in” for food, caffeine, and other items to help them outlast their competition! Last year Russell took home the trophy for lasting 48hrs with no sleep and helping raise over $20k for Sidewalk!
NEW for 2026! The general public can purchase tickets ($15) for 2hr blocks of time and join the contestants in the theater for a little taste of the experience! Think of it as being able to spend a few hours on your favorite reality TV competition like “Big Brother.” There are all kinds of surprises throughout the competition and some terribly bad movies! You can help Russell by donating HERE!

Masterworks: Luminous Legends
Friday & Saturday, 7pm
Cost: $12+
At: Alys Stephens Center (map)
Join Carlos Izcaray and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra for Luminous Legends: Tchaikovsky & Brahms, an evening that brings together composers whose music continues to inspire and move us. The concert opens with Beethoven’s Overture to Egmont, a work charged with dramatic energy and conviction. It’s music about courage and the resilience of the human spirit, a powerful way to begin the evening. Next, enjoy Tchaikovsky’s Suite No. 4 in G major, “Mozartiana.” This is Tchaikovsky paying tribute to Mozart, taking the earlier composer’s elegant themes and filtering them through his own Romantic sensibility. The result is a graceful blend of two distinct musical voices, separated by time but united in their expressive clarity. The evening closes with Brahms’s Symphony No. 3 in F major, a work of uncommon warmth and emotional nuance. From its memorable opening to its quietly reflective finale, this symphony reveals Brahms at his most lyrical with music that feels both grand and deeply personal. This is an evening of orchestral storytelling at its finest.
