It’s time to say goodbye to Summer, but hello to Football and Spooky Season! This week brings us some cooler temps, so let’s get outside and enjoy the final weekend of the Summer season.  Here are some fantastic events to help you get the most out of your Labor Day weekend!

Fall Indian Classical Music Concert

Experience the depth and beauty of Indian classical music with the BMA’s annual fall concert. This special program brings together three outstanding performers of Indian classical music: Jesse Bannister, one of the most remarkable and respected ethno-saxophone players from the UK; Soumyajyoti, a sought after flute player for the major Indian music festivals and a senior staff artist of the All India Radio; and Pt. Subhen Chatterjee, a Grammy-nominated and world renown tabla maestro. In this performance titled Sacred Winds, the audience will have the unique experience of hearing two diverse kinds of wind instruments. The performance will showcase the divinity, beauty, and intricacies of ragas and talas of North Indian classical music with a unique blend of world music. Whether you’re a longtime listener or new to the form, this evening offers a chance to connect with international masters of their craft during their special US tour.

UAB Blazers vs Alabama State

Looking for a great way to get geared up before each UAB football home game? Head to the rooftop of Uptown Cantina throughout the 2025 season for food, drinks, and live entertainment!
Single game Alumni Tailgate passes for the UAB vs. Alabama State game on Thursday, August 28, 2025, are available for $25 through Wednesday, August 27, 2025. The tailgate will open 2-1/2 hours prior to kickoff and close 30 minutes before game time. A limited number of passes may be purchased for $30 on game day depending on availability - visit us on the place between Uptown Cantina and Texas de Brazil to purchase on-site passes. Tailgate passes DO NOT include a game ticket or parking, but DO include a drink ticket and some delicious food!  Alumni Tailgate passes will be distributed digitally prior to each home game. Passes will be texted and emailed to the passholder and are transferable. Anyone over three must have a digital pass to enter.

2025 Alabama Gem & Minerals Show

Join in for the 53rd Annual Gem & Mineral Show, hosted by the Alabama Mineral and Lapidary Society, at the Bessemer Civic Center on August 29 through August 31. As always, this event is chock full of vendors with the most amazing gems, minerals, crystals, fossils, handmade jewelry, and more! It’s a family friendly event with fun activities for all ages, including a kids area and geode cracking. Step in out of the heat and check out some cool minerals to round out your summer fun! We can definitely say that this event ROCKS!

Electric Funeral: Ozzy Tribute

In the wake of the Prince of Darkness crossing to the other side, Saturn is hosting a gathering for a celebration of the incredible music Ozzy Osbourne gave to this world, first with Black Sabbath, then through his iconic solo work. Expect faithful covers and bold interpretations spanning the haunted roots of Sabbath to the soaring chaos of Ozzy’s solo years. From War Pigs to Flying High Again, they’ll be covering the full spectrum of Ozzy’s sonic legacy.
Doors are at 7:00 and at 8:00 they will be doing a special replay of the quadraphonic surround sound mix of Paranoid, the landmark 1970 second album by Black Sabbath. After the show, stick around as the band keeps the night going with a heavy, Sabbath and metal-laced DJ set. As part of the evening, Saturn will be making a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, the leading nonprofit focused on Parkinson’s research and treatment breakthroughs.
