Join Sidewalk for a special screening of Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). Lights will be a little brighter than usual in the theater so you can bring your knitting, crochet or any other craft project! Party on the Porch

Party on the Porch brings together local musicians, breweries, food trucks, and local businesses for an evening you do not want to miss! This is a family-friendly event, with activities for kids, a dog-friendly atmosphere, live music, good food, cornhole, giveaways, and loads of fun! Attendance is free, but they ask that of-age (21+) attendees donate (not required) $10 for a wristband and a souvenir cup with your donation going to a local non-profit organization at the event. Join us on May 2nd at their Homewood location from 6-8pm and help support Freshwater Land Trust!

MAKEbhm is hosting its annual Spring Open House with a twist - they are partnering with their friends at MadeGood to present a Demo Makers Market. Not only will the studios be open for you to peruse, but they will be in action with makers giving you a taste of what it takes to make their craft. They’ll have live printing, wheel throwing, painting & more. The makers will be selling their goods, coffee and ice cream will be flowing, and MAKE will be opening up their summer classes for enrollment. It's never been a better time to shop local and support artists!

14th Annual Salsa Showdown

The Sidewalk Film Center + Cinema is hosting Birmingham’s 14th Annual Salsa Showdown, presented by Rubio Law Firm – a fundraising competition to determine who offers the best salsa, guacamole, queso, and specialty dip. Admission will include sampling privileges at each competitor’s station, a ballot for casting an “Audience Choice” vote, a cooking demo, access to live entertainment, beverage vending, and the Hot Pepper Eating Contest with a cash prize. This year's Showdown will feature a vendor village.

Magic City Wine Fest is a rain or shine event.

Cereal Adventure Brunch

ABSOLUTELY FREE CEREAL BRUNCH ADVENTURE!!! Come out this Sunday at the Satellite from 9 AM--3 PM and grab a cup of coffee, because Saturn is having a cereal adventure brunch party! They do suggest a donation of $2 with a cup of coffee and all cereal proceeds will go to a local charity. Enjoy over 30 classic cereal choices (Mix, Match, and go crazy!) and a wide variety of milk including multiple flavors and soy and almond as well. Also, they'll be showing 70s / 80s Saturday morning cartoons to give you that complete nostalgic feel of the glory years of sitting around in your PJ's and chompin' on bowls full of Capt'n Crunch. In fact, come in your PJ's if you want. Oh, did we mention they’ll have Pop-Tarts?!

12th Annual Darter Fest

The 12th annual Darter Fest will be held on Sunday, May 4, noon-5:00 p.m. at Avondale Brewing Company. The festival supports our watershed education programs for Birmingham City Schools, with a particular emphasis on the Watercress Darter. This tiny fish is unique to Birmingham and needs our help! Darter Fest 2025 will feature Avondale Brewing Co.’s seasonal Darter IPA, food trucks, live music, kids’ activities, and fun for the whole family. Live music by Winston Ramble, Little Raine Band, and Tri-City Jazz! Advance general admission tickets are $15 and $50 for VIP passes. Day of event prices will be $20 and $60, respectively. VIP passes include access to a private lounge with complimentary food, beer/soft drinks, and preferred access to the music stage!
