If you weren’t aware, Sidewalk Film Festival & Cinema, a 501c3, had a $25k pre-approved federal grant clawed back because of their dedication to inclusivity in their programing.  The best thing you can do to help is to check out what’s going on at Sidewalk Cinema this weekend and buy tickets to their events and concessions once you arrive! They host all kinds of events like karaoke, FREE Bad Movie Nights, Knitflix & Chill, Pajama Brunches, and fantastic films! 5th Annual Flourish Fest

The Flourish Alabama's showcase of creative films, photography, and visual art from high school students across the city of Birmingham. Join in supporting our Birmingham youth on May 29th 5pm-9pm at the Carver Theatre for our 5th Annual Flourish Fest! The event will feature creative student projects, a silent auction, and giveaways! Flourish is excited to celebrate the amazing work done by our Birmingham City School students over the past semester! The 5th Annual Flourish Fest will be showcasing the films and projects they created alongside the guidance of the Flourish Teaching Artists. Students will not only experience the satisfaction of showcasing their creative work, but will also receive awards and certificates for their participation in the program.

Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee

Get ready to test your spelling skills and have some fun at The 1st Birmingham Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee! This exciting event will bring together word enthusiasts for a night full of friendly competition, laughter, and community spirit. Come cheer on the contestants, enjoy a lively atmosphere, and help raise funds to support adults and families in Central Alabama as they improve their reading, writing, and English-speaking skills.

Grab a bike and come ride and explore our city! All types of bikes and riders are welcome. You don't have to compete to be fastest to have a good time and you could even still win something cool. $15 registration fee with all proceeds going towards Redemptive Cycles charitable services. The Ride rolls promptly at 4 PM but come early to register and for any last minute needed items. Alley Cats have no set route. Instead, all riders must visit designated check-points and gather proof of their visit. We'll give you the check points at registration then you plan your own route! Ride alone or with friends but the important thing is that you ride!

Iron City Comic Con comes to the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center in Birmingham on May 31st & June 1st for a fun-filled weekend of guests, panels, Q&As, gaming, vendors, artists, cosplay, and so much more! The cosplays are so creative, the vendors have a ton of cool pop culture merchandise including art and vintage toys, and the celebrity panels are a great opportunity to meet some famous faces of pop culture! This year’s guests include Sean Astin of Goonies/Rudy/Lord of the Rings fame, as well as actors from Harry Potter, Buffy, Star Trek, and many more!
