March is Women’s History Month and we have a list of fun events that are either FREE or low-cost! These events are a great way to celebrate all the powerful, dedicated, and driven women who help cultivate and grow our Birmingham community! Women in Film Week

Sidewalk’s Women In Film Week will feature important, innovative and influential films directed or written by women. This celebration of Women in Film will acknowledge the important artistic and technical contributions made by females in the industry. In addition to first run and retrospective film screenings, the week will offer related panels, workshops, networking and social activities, creating space for the entire community, filmmakers and audiences alike, and celebrate Women in Film.

Good for Her: Exploring our Relationship w Hysterical Women

Since early Western Civilization femininity has been tied to stories of madness. Historically, our uterus is the genesis to instability and the source of female wickedness. This presentation examines some of the history of the film trope, the “hysterical woman” and its effect on modern pop culture. This educational presentation is part of the Women in Film Series taking place March 7th - 10th at Sidewalk Cinema. This event will be led by our friend, and fellow Bad Movie Marathon Winner, Kitty Byrge!  Be sure to hang around for a screening of the cult classic “Jennifer’s Body,” at 7:30pm!
