This weekend is full of all kinds of fun! There’s a celebration for Star Wars Day, Cinco de Mayo events, Bham Folk Fest, and tons of other great activities! Kick off the month of May by getting out and enjoying the fun events that Birmingham has to offer! Check below for more details.

rEVOLVEr Resale 1yr Anniversary

This Friday celebrate rEVOLVEr’s 1yr Anniversary at their $5 Friday Weekly Happy Hour! The event will feature tunes by DJ YANA & nonalcoholic mocktails by DeAngelo's Daiquiris! They will be open regular hours that day 11–6 with the party kicking off at 4 p.m. and staying open until 8 p.m. Please bring cash for mocktails and for tips, and feel free to bring your own liquor to add to them if you wish! Hors d’oeuvres will be provided while you shop. Don’t have the $5 love donation? Don’t sweat it! All are welcome! The love donation just helps them keep operating.

Bards & Brews May Slam

Bards & Brews is hosting their next Slam this Friday at the Vulcan Park & Museum! Starting at 6:30pm, join in for a night out on the patio with spoken word poetry & live jazz music by local saxophonist DeLon Charley. Poets will compete in rounds against each other with their original works, & the audience gets to help decide who the winners are!

Party on the Porch

Party on the Porch brings together local musicians, breweries, food trucks, and local businesses for an evening you do not want to miss! This is a family-friendly event, with activities for kids, a dog-friendly atmosphere, live music, good food, cornhole, giveaways, and loads of fun! Attendance is free, but they ask that of-age (21+) attendees donate (not required) $10 for a wristband and a souvenir cup with your donation going to a local non-profit organization at the event. They'll have live music from the great CashBack Music as well as delicious food from Cantina Tako Truck, refreshing popsicles from Son's Donuts + Pops, and plenty of Good People brews! This month’s event supports our friends at Redemptive Cycles!

Mahler’s 4th Symphony

Music Director Carlos Izcaray leads Mahler’s charming Fourth Symphony, a work exploring themes of childhood and innocence, highlighted with soprano soloist Helen Huang. Lauded for her “intelligence, integrity and all-encompassing technical prowess” and “astounding virtuosity”, Sara Davis Buechner will feature on Richard Strauss’ Burleske. This uncharacteristically complex scherzo will highlight her incredible talent and nuanced musicianship.

Disco de Mayo

This one is for the ladies! Join in for a fun-filled evening at Monday Night Brewing! Bring your best gals and celebrate Cinco de Mayo like never before. Simply switch over to the next. There's something for everyone! There’ll be a fully stocked bar offering a wide selection of beverages, including non-alcoholic options, available for purchase upon your arrival. Get ready for a May the Fourth celebration that's out of this world! Come in costume and take part in themed programming. They’ll have member's of the Alabama Garrison of the 501st Legion (@al501st) in attendance, a droid challenge, special laser sword presentation in Rushton theater, and more! Star Wars Day Crawfish Boil

Celebrate Star Wars day with The Beer Hog during their last crawfish boil of the season! Dress down or dress up in your finest Imperial uniform - this event is for everyone! Cajun crawfish, shrimp & sides courtesy of 'Til We Run Out, a locally owned and operated business. Trays will be ready for purchase by the pound at 11am! (Their sale tent will be located just outside the pet-friendly patio!) Beer Hog will also will be offering a variety of craft mexican-style cervezas, because we just can't wait for Cinco De Mayo! Join in for the 150th Kentucky Derby Block Party celebration at Post Office Pies on Saturday, May 4 starting at 3:00. There will be live music on the patio, and they will have the "Run for the Roses" on the TVs so you can cheer for your favorite Thoroughbred. Feeling lucky? Darter Festival

The 11th annual Darter Festival will begin at Noon on May 5th at Avondale Brewing Co. with live music, food and drinks, kids' activities, and more! Advance general admission tickets are $10, and advance VIP tickets - which include food and drinks from Luna Latin Cuisine and prime indoor seating - are $50. Tickets will be $20 for general admission and $60 for VIP at the door. Children 12 and under get in for free for general admission (VIP tickets will have to be purchased).
