This weekend feels like one long Christmas Eve to a lot of B’ham residents! That’s how much we love and look forward to Sidewalk Film Festival! Opening night is Friday at the Alabama Theatre and the festivities last through the weekend! We will be “staycationing” at the brand new Fairfield Inn & Suites next to the Elyton! In this emotional but deliciously funny play, Della – the proprietor of a legendary bakery in North Carolina – has recently been cast on her favorite television baking competition. All is going well until the daughter of her late best friend comes home from New York City to ask Della to bake a cake for her upcoming wedding. When Della learns that Jen is engaged to a woman, she is forced to re-examine her deeply held beliefs, as questions of morals, judgment and family swirl all around. For the first time in her life, Della has to think for herself.

It’s Birmingham's first ever Dragon Boat Race & Festival and it’s happenin’ at East Lake Park! Free to the community, come enjoy the Kids Zone, the Merchant's Market where local artists and restaurants will set up shop for the event and watch teams of 21 people race across East Lake while supporting Mitchell's Place and the community. Known as the ultimate team building activity, many businesses sponsor teams for employees to learn how to work together to cross the finish line. Churches, high schools and other community groups are encouraged to participate as well! All you need is 20 of your closest friends. Teams will also compete to win the Best Costume, Best Tent Decoration or "Dragon Your Tail" award.
