A Symphony of Celebration: The Blind Boys of Alabama

You are invited to attend the premiere movie presentation of the PBS film A SYMPHONY CELEBRATION: THE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA WITH DR. HENRY PANION, III at the beautiful Alabama Theatre! This special television concert-documentary features the five-time Grammy-winning group with Dr. Henry Panion, III serving as both conductor and commentator, backed by lush orchestrations performed by members of The Alabama Symphony Orchestra and a 300-voice choir from some of Alabama's amazing HBCU choirs, including Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Miles College, Tuskegee University and Talladega College, and choirs from Birmingham Southern College and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
A Symphony Celebration begins airing nationwide on PBS in February. So here's your chance to be among the first to experience the film in the beautiful and historic Alabama Theatre. And YES, The Blind Boys of Alabama, who are presently up for three Grammys, will be in attendance, along with Dr. Panion. World of Wheels

This is probably the BIGGEST event of the weekend! World of Wheels returns to the BJCC for three days of cars, trucks, celebrity and character appearances, live music, and so much more! This year you can see replicas of BOTH the 1989 Burton Batmobile AND the 1966 George Barris Batmobile! Celebrity guests include people like WWE star Mick Foley and you can expect character appearances from a few Transformers! Be sure to bring the kids for the Hot Wheels racing throughout the weekend! Black & Beautiful Art Exhibit

Bards & Brews February Slam

Bards & Brews 1st Slam of the year is slated for Friday, February 2, at the Central Library! Registration to compete starts at 6:00 p.m. on-site; the slam itself starts at 6:30 p.m. This slam is hosted by Thed Weller & our Guest Performer is local drummer Barry Johson. After an opening performance of West African drumming, poets will compete with original spoken word poetry in rounds for cash prizes!
Prizes are listed as follows:
1st place $200.00
2nd place $100.00
3rd place $50.00
You must be 18+ to enter & 21+ to drink with proof of I.D. We'll be serving samples of wines & beers. Admission to Bards & Brews is free & open to the public. Competing in the slam is open to the 1st 10 people to register with the $5.00 registration fee.
