Punch Cancer in the Mouth

Cancer sucks and one of Hop City’s own is fighting it. Justin Jones is one of the original Hop City team members, bar manager, and your favorite teddybear behind the bar. And he has tongue cancer. This Thursday, Hop City is giving the bar to Justin to support him and his family in this fight against cancer. Stop by, drink some beer, and every dollar spent goes straight to support Justin as he punches cancer in the mouth!

Because of the eclipse, then Sidewalk Film Festival, we have missed getting Hot Cakes the past few weeks. If you haven’t done it yet, stop by Magic City Daylight Donuts on Acton Rd this Friday night and prepare to eat some of the best hot & fresh donuts you’ve ever tasted! Each week they feature different specialty donuts from Peach Cobbler (made with local peaches, of course), a S’mores donut, and hot “Ice Cream Sandwich” that tastes like beignets, and more!

Guided Hike: Mining History

Ruffner Mountain was once home to the Sloss-Sheffield Mines where iron-ore and limestone were extracted and sent to the blast furnaces at Sloss. Join Gary Bostany and discover Ruffner’s role in the mining heyday of Birmingham while exploring these sites and artifacts up close. Learn about the extended railroad system “the old mineral railroad” that serviced Ruffner and the rest of Red Mountain. The hike is approximately 4 miles total, usually about 3.5 hours, with moderate inclines and slopes. Be sure to bring water and a bagged lunch!
